Good Government Policy is Vital for Health of Real Estate and Business
Realtors® must be aware of the political nature of our business and that local, state and US government agencies, are always making and enforcing policies that impact real estate and private property rights.
We as Realtor® members at the Orange County Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors are part of a special interest and grassroots organization. Our OCAR board of directors has understood the need for involvement in government policy.
Local Government Relations south committee people at OCAR get together each month for the study, discussion and to recommend to the OCAR board on important issues relating to protection of private property rights and Realtors®.
Last year during 2009 our committee made recommendations to the OCAR board about US first time homebuyer tax credit and extension, CA proposed point of sale mandate on home retrofits, mortgage reform, increase of US agency conforming loan limits, CA SB94 re advance fees for loan modifications, Mission Viejo city proposed “right to vote” ballot initiative, and others.
More efforts are being made by city governments to raise revenue on the backs of Realtors® and property owners, with proposed point-of-sale mandates, transfer taxes and business license fees, so the need for continued local political involvement is important.
