Irvine's Bommer Canyon Trailhead Now Open for Public Visitors
Irvine's Bommer Canyon trailhead was in the rough for years and not easily accessible.
The City of Irvine purchased Bommer Canyon from The Irvine Company in 1981. Since that time Bommer Canyon has been used for special events, including picnics, campouts and weddings.
Bommer Canyon at Irvine had a city public ribbon cutting in April 2011 and is now open for public visitors with self-guided access and scheduled programs.
Rich in history of Irvine Ranch lore and beautiful sights, Bommer Canyon will see lots of walkers, hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts moving past ancient oak and sycamore groves with rough rock and granite outcroppings.
Located at Irvine near Turtle Ridge, Turtle Rock and just west of Shady Canyon, the Bommer Canyon trails area is most days for self-guided hikes from dawn to dusk.
However, other areas and programs within Irvine's Bommer Canyon require pre-registration. Monthly Wilderness Access Days are also available to allow hikers, bikers and equestrians to explore the network of trails and views of the area.
