Politics Behind the US Govt Programs - TALF and PPIP and TARP

US government programs, TALF, PIP and TARP, were motivated by politics and not policy.

 

Media people don't talk much these days about toxic assets, and it looks like much of that talk during 2009 was about politics. 

 

In 2008 Paulson and Bernancke had to make a dramatic move to prove that government was doing the right thing, and they did.  TARP was designed and worked.  Other similar programs started in 2009 weren't really needed, didn't work and should be abandoned.
