Do We Need the High Speed Rail Train from SoCal to San Francisco?

Mayor Curt Pringle at Anaheim and others say we need the high speed rail train now proposed to San Francisco.

Their idea is to eventually have a high-speed line that would run north to San Francisco ... then to Sacramento.

The first link of the line is scheduled to run from Anaheim's ARTIC transportation center and across the 57 freeway from Angel Stadium to L.A.'s Union Station with plan for that section to run along an existing rail corridor.

The cost to build this first segment is estimated at $4.8 billion, which would come from US stimulus funds, and then matched by a combination of state and local transportation funds.

I wonder whether California needs this and if we have the money to pay for it.
