Orange County Real Estate Beat Wall Street Results During This Now Ending Decade

Orange County real estate and home selling prices did well during this past decade ~ from 2000 to December 31, 2009.  The median OC home sold price went up 105% during that time.
 
See Orange County Register article -  Home price doubled in decade in 46 O.C. ZIPs.
 
According to the Wall Street Journal, since the end of 1999, stocks on the New York Stock Exchange “have lost an average of 0.5 percent a year, thanks to the twin bear markets this decade.”
 
 
What's your forecast for this next decade?  What's your prediction?  Will Orange County Real Estate (home sold prices) beat Wall Street again?

We have seen lots more homebuyer activity at Irvine, CA, during the past three months and are not surprised that home sales are indeed way up.  Of Irvine’s 8 ZIP codes, all 8 had sales gains vs. a year ago (for the month ending December 8).

Hoping that Governor Schwarzenegger Will Cancel State's Proposed Sale of OC Fairgrounds

Costa Mesa city council members are scheduled to meet with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on January 4 to talk about possibly canceling the state's sale of the Orange County Fairgrounds.
 
 
There are competing interests.  The city of Costa Mesa and county of Orange are partnering to bid for purchase of the property. A different non-profit group also wants to buy the grounds and run the fair.  A private developer wants the land and said he will bidding.

California Non-Resident Property Owners Must Have Income Tax Withheld on Revenue from Properties

Beginning January 1, 2010, property managers must withhold 7% of all income, that exceeds $1,500, on California properties owned by nonresidents, which would be sent to the nonresident property owners, unless the owner qualifies for reduced or waived withholding.

Orange County Housing Expert Reports Dramatic Drop in Active Inventory of Homes for Sale

Orange County housing expert Steve Thomas reports that Active Inventory of Homes for Sale has been dramatically reduced.
  • Started 2009 at 11,326 homes on the market.
  • Reached 2009 peak of 11,606 by end of March.
  • Continued downward trend and now at 7,381 homes, a 36% drop from this year's high peak.
  • Homes for sale has dropped to levels not seen since December of 2005.
  • During 2008 reached high peak homes for sale in March that year at 15,617.
So we have experienced a 52.7% decrease in number of Orange County homes for sale from high peak March 2008 to the present time.
 
 
We need more homes for sale on the Orange County market, especially those at and under $800k.
